Unplugged Online Concerts August 2020

Dear Music Lovers

We hope you are keeping well and warm on these sunny winter days.

The World has transformed from Unplugged to completely online in just a matter of months.  But musicians are finding new ways to create their music and the Cape Town Concert Series, Unplugged and Fine Music Radio are staying right here to keep you connected to the music.

The Concert Series, over the last few years has not only hosted the very finest recitals but also become more involved in the development and presentation of concerts around Cape Town – reaching out to support all music and musicians.   We continue to do this with the help of Fine Music Radio – who are working tirelessly to keep classical music live on air.  We are now compiling their daily calendar of events and also co-hosting a diary programme on local music and online concerts called Playon! which airs most Mondays.  This has been a great opportunity to connect with musicians and the music they are making, as well as keep music of all genres playing.

For those who are able to engage with online concerts, there is alot to choose from. Most are available for a number of days- some are free on Facebook or Youtube, others require donations to be made via ticket sales on Quicket, Webticket and Computicket.

Highlights include:

Concerts Connect classical recital featuring the Amici Quartet with Megan-Geoffrey Prins at Old Nectar in Stellenbosch where you can help support local musicians and also the CT Concert Series directly.

20/20 Entertainment in Containment:  20 presentations over 20 weeks, each 20 minutes long featuring a mix of arts disciplines created by freelance South African artists.

Musician and composer Mandisi Dyantyis conversation series with Blake Hellaby, Buddy Wells, Steve da Souza and Lumanyano Mzi on 1 August: Ubuntu – I am because you are. 7pm live- no repeats

A special fundraising concert with young violinist Jordan Brooks on Sunday 9th August. Jordan will be joined by pianist Tertia Visser, cellist Graham du Plessis and violinist Refiloe Olifant 3pm live-no repeats

Another fundraiser on 29 July – Guitars for Africa featuring 20 African jazz guitarists. For more details and all things jazz – check this link and join their mailing list:  https://capetownjazz.weebly.com/jazz-gig-guide.html

Thank you for supporting musicians and keeping the music alive.

Kind regards
Louise Howlett
