Les Amateurs Virtuoses Piano Festival comes to Cape Town this November to celebrate 10 years of providing masterclasses and concerts for talented amateur pianists from around the world.
There are, amongst us, doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers and more who, after they finish their days work, continue their studies of music to become thrilling pianists by night. This piano festival gives them a platform to show their skills and to inspire others to continue with their love of studying music, even while pursuing other careers.
The week long festival of events starts on 10th November with a grand opening concert in the Baxter Concert Hall, Rondebosch. Sunday 11th moves to Stellenbosch for a masterclass and afternoon concert in the Endler Hall, then further concerts take place from Monday to Friday each night at 7.30pm in the Baxter Concert Hall in collaboration with the College of Music, UCT. They will also host masterclasses during the week featuring Albie van Schalkwyk, Francois du Toit and Jan Hugo from South Africa, Philip Fowke from the UK and Jay Gottlieb from America. Participants attending come from France, Russia, Germany, America and Canada as well as South Africa. On Saturday 17th the Festival will take an afternoon concert to Guga S’thebe in Langa and the festival finishes with a spectacular finale concert on Sunday 18th November where a selection of the participants will perform with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra in the City Hall, Cape Town.
