Dear Music Lovers
UNPLUGGED IS BACK! to update you once more on all things music – as venues are cautiously opening again, you can catch the following Live events this May:
For your Diary – working backwards:
The Cape Town Concert Series are celebrating musicians who have kept the music playing during lockdown. On Saturday 29th May they will host pianist Christopher Duigan in the Baxter Concert Hall at 11am. Christopher was one of the first of all musicians in South Africa to find a way to present concerts online in 2020, and so far has performed nearly 120 concerts from his home every Wednesday and Saturday. He has given talks, presented requests and played music covering all styles and genres, managing to overcome loadshedding and numerous other online glitches. He will present some of his lockdown favourites and also talk about his online experiences. Book tickets now from Webtickets.
There is a special evening of food, music and storytelling with the Trio de Musique on Friday 28th at Erin Hall. The programme features music from Beethoven, R. Strauss, Mozart, Chopin, Brahms and Marais. The music will be intertwined with letters from the time, which will be read by Lara Kirsten. In addition to the music there will be a delicious supper provided by Sweet Petals with a complimentary glass of wine. Booking is essential through Quicket.
Hazendal Wine Estate opens their Jazz Club nights with singer Sandile Gontsana on 26th May with supper included. Tickets from Hazendal.co.za
The Endler Concert Series returns with a trio concert on Friday 21st May featuring Gabrielle von Durckheim, Petrus Coetzee and Roxane Steffen and this coming weekend brings you a Baroque Chamber Concert on Saturday 15th May featuring soprano Lynelle Kenned and the Camerata Tinta Barocca, tickets from Computicket.
Also this weekend on 14 and 15 May the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra are performing with the Elvis Sibeko Studios in a production called Dance Can Dance “The Spirit of Enchantment”. Tickets are from Computicket & www.cpo.org.za
