Hansgeorg Schmeiser Flute Masterclasses 11-16 August

We are excited to inform you that renowned flautist and teacher Hansgeorg Schmeiser is returning to Cape Town for masterclasses from the 11-16th of August. We are also excited to announce that this year there will not only be masterclasses for UCT students, but also 3 days of masterclasses for High School Students as well as private lessons for professionals, teachers and advanced students. Please see the full week schedule attached. There are various activities this week to get you thoroughly soaked in flute playing. Please share with everyone who may be interested.


There will be a fantastic flute (Hansgoerg Schmeiser) and piano (Albie van Schalkwyk) recital taking place on Sunday 12 August at 15.00. This concert will feature works by Bach, Schubert, Dvorak and Poulenc. Tickets are R100/R50 (scholars and pensioners). To book tickets click here.


The University of Cape Town (UCT) masterclasses will take place from the 11th – 14th of August. The students from the university will perform in these classes, however the flute community is invited to watch the lessons and participate in the morning technique classes (R100 per day).  To register as an auditor, click here.

This year we are extending our masterclasses to include high school students. These will take place on the 14th – 16thof August from 15.30 – 20.30 daily. They will be hosted at the South African College of Music ( 14th)  and Bishops Diocesan College (15-16 th). To apply as a performer or auditor click here.  High school students of grade 7 level and above are encouraged to apply.  Please note that these will  be allocated on a first come first serve basis.


We are once again offering a TEACHERS’ WORKSHOP of Monday 13 August from 18.30 – 20.30. This workshop will give teachers an opportunity to learn and discover Schmeiser’s teaching philosophies and practices as well as ask more in depth questions about his approach to the flute. The workshop will cost R150. To register click here.


Private lessons will be available to teachers, professionals and advanced students. These will be offered on the mornings of the 15th and 16th of August from 10.00 – 13.00. Please click here to apply. Please note that these lessons are offered on a first come first serve basis.
