Dear Friends of the College
We are now deep into the exam season, during which time we also have three of our most prestigious annual competitions. All take place in the Baxter Concert Hall, and tickets (for this year) are still free of charge.
If you wish to book a place, please e-mail Gillian.Lindner@uct.ac.za , or call Milton on 021 650 2626.
Here are the details:
The Schock Foundation Prize for Singing had over 30 entries, and the four male and four female students who have made it through to the final round this coming Tuesday 16 November at 6.30 pm in the Baxter Concert Hall are:
Ladies: Zizipho Funzo, Setsoane Ntseki, Ondelwa Martins and Ncumisa Garishe
Gents: Dumisa Masoka, Smelo Mkhlangu, Luvo Maranti and Reuben Mbonambi
Remember to bring a pen for the audience vote.
On Wednesday 17th November, starting at 13h00, we have the final rounds of our three piano competitions.
They are The Robert Andrew Prize, where candidates must present a single work, or movement(s) from a work composed in the last hundred years by a composer from the Southern Hemisphere.
This will be followed immediately by the James de Villiers Prize, which is a prize for the best performance of a Romantic work.
The final competition is the self-explanatory Lionel Bowman Prize for Beethoven Playing. The winner of this prize will perform a lunchtime recital in 2022.
A week later, on 23 November at 6.30pm, we have The Laura Searle Prize for Piano Concerto Playing. Part of the prize is to perform with the UCT Symphony Orchestra next year.
Interspersed amongst these competitions are two individual senior exam recitals which you may wish to attend:
17th November at 5.30 pm in the Baxter Concert Hall
