Unplugged live concerts in Cape Town for October

Dear Music Lovers

The final countdown to summer has begun with some special concerts this October.

Firstly if you have no plans for tonight – Wednesday 2 October– there is a benefit variety concert at the Baxter to raise funds for three incredible children who are fighting rare illnesses and need your help. The concert is called With A Little Help from my Friends and features jazz, opera and more. Tickets from Webtickets and at the door.

If you are missing the incredible Baroque Festival which took place last month, then there is a wonderful fundraising soiree on 20 October called The Misshapen Pearls – a Baroque Story. Hosted by the Friends of Orchestral Music, these evenings are filled with delicious wine, food, music and conversation with all the proceeds going towards classical music in Cape Town and are generously sponsored by Bowmans.

Erin Hall in Rondebosch has a flute and guitar afternoon, two piano concerts plus the Songmakers’ Guild with a fun filled final concert of the year – Die Fledermaus? . The intimate Alma Cafe in Rosebank hosts a great mix of accoustic evenings and this coming Sunday 6 features one of the best folk trios around – Jenny and the Jameses starting from 7pm including supper.

The Cape Town Concert Series continues on 19 October with a piano recital of Beethoven, Schubert, Ravel and Scriabin with Luis Magalhaes and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra open their summer season on 31 October with chinese pianist Antonio Chen Guang.

Choral lovers cannot miss Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis on 15 October and on 12 October the National Youth Music Competition will feature 6 soloists performing with the CPO at Hugo Lambrechts. This competition will also be broadcast live on Fine Music Radio. UCT’s SACM also continues with another month of rising star concerts and competitions.

Lastly if you fancy a weekend away the annual Franschhoek Music and Art festival takes place from 25 to 27 October with a mix of chamber music, popular music and solo piano.

As always there are too many to mention – please see below for posters and booking, with further details on facebook, FMR, whatsonincapetown, Computicket, Webtickets and Quicket.

Time to make a date with live music this October.

Kind regards
