Young soloists ensemble at the Baxter

Dear Music Lovers

Violinist Alexander Gilman has arrived in South Africa with his ensemble of 10 young musicians – ready to perform different programmes in Stellenbosch, Johannesburg, Sasolburg and last but not least – the Cape Town Concert Series on Saturday 21st March in the Baxter Concert Hall.   These brilliant string musicians perform all around Europe and are mentored by Alexander Gilman throughout the year.  Each concert features some of the ensemble members as soloists and includes South African cellist Luka Coetzee as well as musicians from Japan, Germany and the USA.

To give you an idea of what you can expect- here is a short video of Miclen LaiPang with the ensemble:

Led by Alexander Gilman, the concert takes place at the Baxter Concert Hall on 21 March at 7:30 pm. Tickets R190 and R80 for students. Booking through Webtickets. Contact or 084 682 1337.

Please note – some sad news: due to the current travel restrictions from the USA, Lavrova Primakov Piano Duo have unfortunately cancelled their tour for April.  We are lucky to announce that in their place we will have not two but three pianos – playing various orchestral transcriptions with Albie van Schalkwyk, Francois du Toit and Jose Dias.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Concert Series.  As always, if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

Dates for your Diary:

Friends and colleagues Albie van Schalkwyk, François du Toit and Jose Dias bring orchestral works to the concert hall with transcriptions for three pianos. This concert replaces the Lavrova Primakov Duo who were not able to travel to South Africa at this time.

The Ubuntu Ensemble is a collective of  some South Africa’s finest musicians working overseas, brought together by bassist Leon Bosch. For this concert South African pianist François du Toit will join violinist Sarah Oates on violin, with Louise Lansdown – viola, Rudi de Groote – cello and Leon Bosch – double bass.  Their programme will be: Mozart’s Piano Quartet in G minor, Matthjis van Dijk – But all I wanna do is Dance and The ‘Trout’ quintet by Schubert.  This truly is a Celebrity concert, which is hosted by the Kramer Jubilee Trust to help raise funds for the longevity of the Concert Series.

Our annual matinee concert at 3pm features American pianist Bryan Wallick – who has often collaborated with other musicians, but has not performed a solo recital for the series in 10 years.
